Man shot to death at Fourth of July party

PROVIDENCE -

A 20-year-old Providence man was shot to death at a Fourth of July party, police said Friday.

Police said an argument escalated into a disturbance at a party at the corner of Henry and Riverdale streets.

Shots were fired, and 20-year-old Joshua Harney was killed.

Another man, 23-year-old Trent Manning, was wounded. His condition was not immediately available Friday.

Police said no arrests have been made.

"This is a day for us to celebrate our country and this is what we have to wake up in the morning and see in the news. It's sad. This kid grew up right in my hands," said a woman who declined to give NBC 10 her name.

Harney's family told NBC 10 that Josh wasn't living with them and that they found out about the shooting late Thursday night. They rushed to the hospital but it was too late.

"He was one of the good kids. His mother's a wonderful woman. I love his mother. Me and her are best friends. They're like family to us. He grew up right here," the woman said.

The woman said sometimes she's scared to come out and enjoy the summer.

"You never know. By 9 p.m., we're all running to go inside our house," she said.

In a separate shooting, police said a 26-year-old man was shot in the back of the shoulder Thursday night on Sayles Avenue. Police said the victim told them a stranger just started firing at him.

    Attleboro Police arrested 26 year old Lori Rickett of Providence on Saturday at 9 p.m. outside the Days Inn on Route 1. The driver, Tonia Pona, 36 of Central Falls was also arrested on a warrant. The vehicle was pulled over because of loud exhaust coming from the car. According to Police, an Attleboro officer was talking to the driver when he noticed Ricket dropping what appeared to be narcotics out of the rear of the vehicle.
