Glocester's Ancients and Horribles Parade spared

GLOCESTER, R.I. -

The interesting and unique thing about Glocester's Fourth of July Ancients and Horribles Parade is that it's not like a traditional Independence Day celebration.

The parade prides itself on being wrought with nutty, scary and weird costumes and floats. Many participants carried strong political messages about Obamacare and the environment.

But the parade went off as planned, despite major financial problems that threatened to cancel the event.

"We're all here together, all this crowd. We're so happy they didn't cancel this year, and they came forth and did the parade. We love this parade. It's been a tradition for years now in our family, so we're so happy," said Vickie Baima of Chepachet.

"Fortunately it continued this year. We almost lost it. But we had a lot of good people come together and volunteer and so forth to bring it all off again. So it really was very nice of them to do that," said Tom Mainville of Burrillville.
