The latest in a string of bear sightings was reported Wednesday in Coventry.

A bear was seen swimming in Johnson's Pond and eating from a bird feeder on Hill Farm Road.

Bear sightings have also been reported in North Smithfield, Lincoln, Exeter, Burrillville, Scituate, Glocester, Hopkinton and West Greenwich since Thursday.

The state Department of Environmental Management says it's not sure if it's dealing with a single bear or multiple bears.

The department is urging residents to take some common-sense measures to keep bears away, such as keeping garbage inside until trash pickup day and removing bird feeders.
