TAUNTON, Mass. -

A Taunton woman is accused of driving drunk with four children in her car.

Angela Tavares was charged Monday with operating under the influence and child endangerment.

A not guilty plea was entered at her arraignment, and she was freed on personal recognizance. Her license was suspended for 30 days until her next court appearance on July 24.

Rehoboth police pulled over Tavares at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday in the area of 181 Winthrop St. Someone called police to report an erratic driver traveling eastbound on Route 44 near Taunton.

Police said Tavares had four children -- ages 3, 7, 12 and 14 -- and a Brockton woman in the car with her.

According to a Rehoboth police report, Tavares submitted to a portable breath test. The result of .187 was more than twice the legal limit of .08. The report said Tavares failed three other field sobriety tests.

According to the report, Tavares told an officer she had two champagnes and two beers between 3 and 7 p.m. at a family wedding in Providence.

Tavares told NBC 10 that what police did wasn't fair, but she didn't want to elaborate.

The case was referred to the state Department of Children and Families.
