FALL RIVER, Mass. -

A math teacher at a Talbot Middle School in Fall River has been charged with enticing a 13-year-old female student.

Adam Medeiros, 27, is accused of having inappropriate communications with the underage student through text messages and pictures.

According to The Herald News, the teenager told police she communicated with her teacher via Snapchat, a new app for smartphones in which pictures disappear after a few seconds.

According to The Herald News, Medeiros wrote a statement to police saying that he did not send any inappropriate pictures or video to the girl, whom he said he had known since she was in sixth grade. Medeiros said he and the girl had a relationship where she felt comfortable confiding in him about her personal issues, the newspaper reported.

Medeiros was arraigned in Fall River District Court on June 7 and released on personal recognizance. He's scheduled to appear in court Aug. 2 for a pretrial hearing.

It was not immediately known whether Medeiros had been put on leave from his job at the school.
