New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was questioned by state and local police about a body found in North Attleborough Tuesday.

The body of a 27-year-old Boston man was found Monday afternoon in the area of an industrial park on John Dietsch Boulevard. Authorities are investigating the man's death as a possible homicide.

Hernandez's name is tied to a rented SUV with Rhode Island plates that is part of the investigation, the website of Sports Illustrated reported. The 2013 Chevrolet Suburban is registered to Enterprise.

SI.com reported that Massachusetts State Police talked to Hernandez on Monday and that they were interested in possibly searching his home.

Patriots spokesperson Stacey James gave this statement regarding the reports on Aaron Hernandez:

"I am aware of the reports, but I do not anticipate that we will be commenting publicly during an ongoing police investigation."

A business owner who didn't want to be identified told NBC 10 a teenage jogger cutting through a pathway found the body.

"(He) came and knocked on our door and said there was a man lying on the ground behind our building. I walked out with him and saw the man lying there," the business owner said.

Authorities did not say whether the body had been dumped in the area or the man had died at the site.

Details of the death were not immediately released, but the district attorney's office said based on the "nature and circumstances" of the discovery, the death is under investigation.

"Kind of odd to have something like that happen, not buried, just on the side of the pathway," said Doug Surette, who works at a business in the industrial park.

It's a pathway employees say is used often as a cut through to a residential area on the other side.

"There's a fitness club down the street and people jog through here to another neighborhood in the back and the road goes through there," Surette said.

The body was found at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, less than a mile from Hernandez's home.
