Joseph Kalen, 49, was arraigned at Newport Hospital charged with driving under the influence, death resulting and refusal to submit to a chemical breath test. He was released on $2,000 surety bail and is scheduled to appear in Newport District Court on June 20.
Police said Kalen was traveling south on Bristol Ferry Road when he lost control of his Ford F-150, and hit two other vehicles.
