NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. -

North Smithfield police said Wednesday they are looking for the public's help after someone broke into Town Hall and stole a number of items.

Capt. Glenn Lamoureux of the North Smithfield Police Department told NBC 10 that an employee reporting for work noticed the break-in.

Police said the break-in happened sometime between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said they believe the burglar entered through a lower-level window.

According to police, the building does not have surveillance equipment but does have an alarm system though it did not alert police to a break-in.

Employees are still compiling a list of what was taken, but computers, video equipment and an undisclosed amount of money were among the items missing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 401-762-1212.
