Flood warnings extended for Pawtuxet, Pawcatuck

National Weather Service flood warnings remain in effect for the Pawtuxet and Pawcatuck rivers after the second round of heavy rains in Rhode Island.

The warning for areas along the Pawtuxet in Providence and Kent counties is in effect through Friday evening.

The river was running at 10.6 feet early Wednesday and was expected to rise further. Minor flooding is already taking place. Forecasters say the water is expected to fall below flood stage of nine feet on Friday evening.

A flood warning for western Washington County along the Pawcatuck has also been extended to Wednesday evening. The river was at 7.8 feet early Wednesday and was expected to remain in flood stage throughout the day.

Flood stage there is seven feet.
