Police said two victims were stabbed following an armed home invasion Thursday in Pawtucket.
Police identified the victims as Gabriel Hernandez, 36, and Olga Mada, 59, both of 21 Memorial Drive. Hernandez and Mada told officers that at about 2:30 p.m., a dark skinned male, wearing a mask and dark colored clothing entered their apartment and demanded money.
According to the police the suspect began to tie the victims hands but when they resisted, the suspect stabbed them.
Police said the suspect then escaped with a small amount of cash.
After the suspect fled, the couple managed to get out of the house and summon help.
Certified Nursing Assistant Jasmin Ortiz told NBC 10 that she encountered Mada shortly after the stabbing.
Ortiz had just arrived at her client's home to take the patient to a routine doctor's appointment when she saw Mada.
Ortiz said the minute she opened the garage door to start packing her female patient into the car, Mada burst in.
Ortiz said, "I opened the garage door and I see the lady run into the garage, and I was like, ‘Oh, what is going on in here? And then she was bleeding all over her face, and I said, ‘What happened?'"
Authorities say Hernandez and Mada were taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
No motive has been determined for the crime. Anyone with more information is asked to call Pawtucket Police at (401) 727-9100.
