A 16-year-old South Providence teenage boy gave himself up to authorities in connection with a shooting at a kindergarten graduation party, police told NBC 10 on Tuesday.
Police said the boy had crashed the party on Public Street and got into an argument when he was told to leave.
Police said the boy left and returned with a group of friends, who fired shots at party guests.
According to Melisa Lawrence, who was hosting the party for her 5-year-old nephew, the argument started over a plate of food.
Lawrence's 16-year-old daughter, Nyasia, was shot in the lower back. She was treated and released from Hasbro Children's Hospital.
Lawrence said the bullet is still lodged in her daughter.
According to The Providence Journal, the boy was charged Monday with felony assault, conspiracy, carrying a firearm while committing a violent crime, and carrying a firearm without a license.
Police told the newspaper they have similar warrants for two others.
