Tech This Out: Beach and park apps

Posted: Updated:

If you want to beat the heat but you're sick of hitting up the same old parks and beaches, here are some apps that will help you explore Rhode Island and New England.

First up is RI State Parks Guide Pocket Ranger. It's for Apple and Android devices.

You can browse any park in the state by name, region or accessibility. You can also search by activity. This is an excellent feature. If you are looking for something specific, like a place to swim or play tennis, just look that up. You can also see a list of parks. There's tons of information, maps, directions, fees and facility rentals. Sometimes you can find park history.

Beachfinder.org is an extensive website with an app available. The app costs 99 cents.

Through Beachfinder, search more 5,300 hot spots in North America, and several here in New England.

I like the information available like weather forecasts, water temperature, safety concerns, beach history and whether or not pets are allowed.

Stay cool and hydrated!
