Deadly hit and run in Providence

Posted: Updated:

A parking lot fight turned deadly on Elmwood Ave Friday night, when one of the individuals involved in the melee was fatally struck by a vehicle.

NBC10 went to the Saver's Mart where the fight occurred to speak with Mohssen Ahmed who was working the night of the crash and witnessed the ordeal.

Witnesses say that the individuals involved in the scuffle were in the store together just moments before it all happened and there was no indication that anything was brewing between them. According to Ahmed it did not even seem like the individuals knew one another.

Fast forward a few minutes to the parking lot scene however and a far different tale unfolds. Surveillance video shown to NBC10 shows a fight in the parking lot breaking out just after 10:30pm after one man threw what Ahmed says is a can of Red Bull at the man in a blue shirt. Seconds later the fight ensues and the man in a red shirt who is described as the victim got involved. The scuffle then spilled out into the street and that's when according to Ahmed he was hit by two cars.

According to Ahmed he was hit by a car that continued to drive off, and as he went to get up, he realized that he had a broken leg. Although he tried to walk some steps he eventually fell down again and another car came and hit him a second time.

Providence Police have not released the name of the victim at this time, but anyone with information is asked to contact the authorities.
