Police deal with violent weekend

Providence Police had to contend with multiple acts of violence over the weekend, particularly on Sunday morning.

At 2:04 a.m. on Sunday police responded to Waverly St. for a call about a person shot. They found several shell casings and witness told them the victim was driven to Rhode Island Hospital by a friend. The victim, Noberto Montijo, 21, told police he was shot by somebody in a car driving by 99 Waverly St.

At 2:23 a.m., police were called to the corner of Thayer St and George St, where they found a man on the ground with severe head injuries. Witnesses told Providence and Brown University Police the victim was speaking with others when another man walked up to him and punched him in the head. The man,  believed to be a Brown University student, is in critical condition.

At 2:30 a.m., police were dispatched to RI Hospital for a stabbing that happened outside Ada's Creations at 1137 Broad St, where there were several disturbances at closing time. The victim, Rafael Paulino, 21, suffered a stab wound to the abdomen. He is being treated at RI Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses for this incident were not cooperative with police.

All of the incidents are under investigation by the Providence Police.
