Ancients and Horribles need volunteers to continue

Posted: Updated:

After 86 years, the annual July 4th Ancients and Horribles Parade in Chepachet may not go on as scheduled.

Glocester Town Clerk Jean M. Fecteau said a dwindling volunteer base could be the death of the parade. The Ancients and Horribles Parade Committee, which has seen many of its members resign or lose interest over the years, no longer has enough voting members to hold a legal meeting, which means there's a real possibility there will be no parade this year.

The parade has been known for its irreverent and satirical floats as well as it more traditional floats fire trucks and politicians.

Fecteau said there is still time to save the parade if they can get new volunteers. If anyone would like to help they can call the town clerk's office at (401) 568-6206.
