Police: Backpack not considered threat

WOONSOCKET, R.I. -

Police said Monday that messages that were on a backpack found in the yard of a Woonsocket home were punk rock band names and not considered threatening.

A resident of a three-family home on Cass Avenue called police after a neighbor noticed the black-and-tan backpack in his yard near Woonsocket High School on Saturday.

The resident said the bag had phrasing such as "U.S. Bombs" and "The White Stripes".

"Those are all the names of bands, punk rock bands. We checked out the writing and everything came back to bands in that genre of music," said Det. Jamie Taone of the Woonsocket Police Department.

Police said based on evidence in the bag that it wasn't placed in the neighborhood intentionally, and that it contained stolen items from the neighborhood.
