Police: Suspicious package in Pawtucket harmless

Posted: Updated:

Pawtucket police said Friday that a suspicious item left on a sidewalk was apparently an expansion tank for a home heating system.

Police, firefighters and a bomb squad secured the scene on Roosevelt Avenue just before noon.

Police Maj. Arthur Martins said authorities believe the item may have fallen from a passing vehicle or been abandoned as trash.

Neighbors were told to shelter in place. There was no evacuation order.

Police cleared the scene about an hour later.
