Wakefield man claims $1M lottery ticket

CRANSTON, R.I. -

A Wakefield man has turned in a $1 million lottery ticket, one of two sold in Rhode Island for back-to-back drawings last week that are big winners.

State lottery officials said Lawrence Croce Jr. visited headquarters on Monday with his wife and two children to claim his Powerball winnings. They said he learned Friday he had won and couldn't sleep all weekend before turning in the ticket, which he kept in a safe deposit box.

He and his wife say the money will go to fund their children's education and to remodeling their kitchen.

Croce's ticket matched all five numbers but not the Powerball number.

Another ticket worth $1 million from a Mega Millions drawing last week has yet to be turned in. It was sold in Cumberland.
