NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -

A North Kingstown native was married to one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.

The NBC 10 I-Team confirmed that Katherine Russell was married to Tamerlan Tsarnaev and that they have a child.

Tsarnaev was killed in a shootout after a carjacking.

Russell's mother, who lives in North Kingstown, released this statement Thursday:

Our daughter has lost her husband today, the father of her child.

We cannot begin to comprehend how this horrible tragedy occurred. In the aftermath of the Patriots Day horror, we know that we never really knew Tamerlane (sic) Tsarnaev.

Our hearts are sickened by the knowledge of the horror he has inflicted. Please respect our family's privacy in this difficult time.

Tsarnaev's brother and second bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was captured alive in Watertown, Mass., Friday night.
