Worker burned in fire at auto salvage yard

Posted: Updated:

One worker was taken to the hospital on Thursday following a large fire at an auto salvage yard in North Providence.

The fire at K&R Auto Salvage, Inc. on Smithfield Road started at about 5 p.m.

Crews were able to put out the flames about an hour after the fire started. At the peak of the fire, smoke was visible from miles away.

NBC 10 reported that one man was taken to the hospital with burns on his arms. Other workers told NBC 10 that the man didn't seem to be too injured.

The owners of the business told NBC 10 that the fire started in a smaller, separate building where a couple of workers were working. The smaller building was destroyed.

Flames melted metal siding near the roof of the salvage yard.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
