Posted: Updated:

A Pawtucket police officer arrested on domestic abuse charges has pleaded no contest to one count in the case.

Officer Stephen Ricco had faced one count of domestic assault and three counts of disorderly conduct.

An ex-girlfriend told police he assaulted her while he was on duty.

NBC 10's I-Team reports Ricco pled nolo contendre to a single charge of disorderly conduct on Wednesday. The judge dismissed the rest of the charges.

The records indicate Ricco was sentenced to 20 hours of community service, anger management counseling and court costs.

If he stays out of trouble for a year, the charge will be removed from his record.

Pawtucket police officials said Ricco remains suspended with pay.

The department has been conducting its own internal affairs investigation.
