Police treat Woonsocket woman's death as homicide

WOONSOCKET, R.I. -

Woonsocket police said Tuesday it appears someone killed a 57-year-old woman whose body was discovered in her apartment.

The body of Donna Pike was found by police Monday night on the third floor of an apartment building on Rathbun Street.

The landlord asked police to check the apartment after he had not seen Pike in several days.

Police said they're investigating Pike's death as a homicide based on her injuries.

Detective Jamie Paone said police have a "pretty good idea" what happened.

"We don't have anybody in custody right now, and we're still following some leads," Paone told NBC 10 News.

Neighbors said Pike moved in a couple of weeks ago and that they didn't know her beyond saying a few words. Police said they think she lived in the apartment by herself.

Police said they had not been called to the apartment for any problems previously. They also said they do not think Pike was close with her family.
