Police search for serial bank robber

Posted: Updated:

Police in at least two cities are looking for a Fall River man wanted in connection with a string of robberies and attempted robberies over the last 10 days.

Police said Wednesday that 32-year-old John Munoz robbed the Webster Bank on Rockdale Avenue in New Bedford. Police said he handed a teller a note demanding money and ran off.

Fall River police named Munoz as a suspect in three robberies last week – March 25 and March 27 at banks and March 26 at a gas station.

Also on March 26, there was an attempted robbery at a Bank of America branch in Pawtucket. In that case, the suspect left without anything after the teller turned away from the counter when the would-be robber demanded money.

A representative for the Pawtucket Police Department said there wasn't enough evidence to identify a suspect in the case, but that Munoz is being considered as a person of interest.

A similar robbery attempt happened Monday at a bank in New Bedford, where the would-be robber demanded money but left after the teller walked away from the counter.

Police said a weapon wasn't shown in any of the robberies.
