PROVIDENCE -

A Bristol man who stalked and stabbed a female co-worker was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison, the maximum sentence.

Christopher Amaral was sentenced in Providence Superior Court. He previously rejected a plea agreement that would have had him serve 14 years in prison.

Amaral admitted in January to stabbing Andrea Wilmot in the driveway of her Cranston home in July 2011. Wilmot was stabbed 20 times in her back, neck, arms and head.

Wilmot, who was at the sentencing, said she'll be doing physical therapy to recover from the attack for the rest of her life.

"I wish I could go back and never talk to him again," she said.

Wilmot and Amaral had a tumultuous relationship, the details of which were hashed out in her lengthy and emotional victim statement. She said she just wanted to be friends. Amaral claimed Wilmot lead him on.

"I felt like I was the prey and he was the predator," she said.

Colleen Wilmot, Andrea's mother, says she was glad Amaral received the maximum sentence.

"I thank God every day that he didn't take her from me," she said. "For Andrea, this is a life sentence. I wish we could've given him a life sentence."

Colleen Wilmot said she fears her daughter will never be safe.

"I do believe that he'll come after my daughter. I don't believe he's done with my daughter," she said. "He's a predator and very good at what he does, very good at pulling a woman in."
