A Providence man was charged with felony assault after police said he stabbed another man in Pawtucket.

Tony Fugate, 24, was arraigned in Providence District Court on Tuesday. A judge set bail at $10,000 with surety.

On Monday, Pawtucket police were called to a report of a stabbing at 28 Darrow St. at about 7:30 p.m.

Police said they found 42-year-old Shawn Whitfield who had been stabbed in the neck and torso. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that were considered to be not life threatening.

Officers learned Fugate left the area and went to a residence on High Street in Central Falls.

Police said Fugate later surrendered himself to authorities.
