Police remind town residents to lock their doors

Posted: Updated:

Barrington police want to get the word out to residents about a series of overnight burglaries.

Chief John LaCross said in a news release Friday that the burglaries began in February and have targeted homes on Mathewson Road, Chapman Lane, Joyce Street, Baron Road, Thomas Street and Birch Lane.

Burglars entered at least four houses that were left unlocked while the residents were sleeping, LaCross said.

"I strongly encourage our residents to lock their doors at night and activate their home alarm system if applicable. Neighbors should watch out for each other and call the police immediately if they see any suspicious activity, strange cars or people in their neighborhoods or even when your pet dog barks in the early morning hours," LaCross said.

LaCross said anyone providing information that leads to an arrest will be entitled to a Crime Watch cash reward.

Barrington police said anyone with information can call the confidential tip line at 401-437-3933.
