Late winter storm delivers messy morning commute

Spring may be around the corner, but the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for central and western Rhode Island.

The advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Monday until 11 a.m. Tuesday. It covers southeast Providence County, eastern and western Kent County and Washington County in Rhode Island as well as southeastern Massachusetts.

Storm Team 10 Forecast

Storm Team 10 forecast calls for snow and sleet. Between 1 and 3 inches of snow could accumulate in some locations, 3 to 6 inches in the northern part of the state. By 11 a.m. temperatures will be well above freezing.

Winds between 10 and 20 miles an hour are also forecast, with gusts up to 35 mph possible.

The wintry mix is causing traffic slowdowns for commuters around the state.  Power outages were at a minimum early Tuesday.
