EAST GREENWICH, R.I. -

A BB gun was found in a bathroom at East Greenwich High School on Thursday, and the student who reported it has been arrested and charged.

According to police, 18-year-old David Costanza reported finding a suspicious item in a boy's bathroom. The vice principal found an unloaded .45 caliber BB gun on the floor.

Authorities determined the student owned the gun and brought it to school. A search of the building was conducted by police and no threats were made to any students or school officials.

Costanza was charged with one count of possession of a firearm on school grounds, and was arraigned before a bail commissioner.

As condition of his bail, he is to have no contact with East Greenwich High School.

The case was referred to the attorney general's office for prosecution.
