LINCOLN, R.I. -

Members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 328 unanimously voted to ratify a new three-year contract agreement with Stop and Shop.

Four other local unions also voted to ratify the contract which will cover some 46,000 workers.

"This is a great day," says Judy Snarsky of the Stop & Shop in Orleans, Mass. "This has been a tough negotiation session."

The points of contention for the two sides included employee wages, pensions, and healthcare for part-time employees.

The original agreement expired on Feb. 23, 2013 but was extended another week while both sides continued to hash it out.

Snarsky says that she and her fellow employees are glad that they will be able to continue to bring a high level of customer service to the grocery chain's loyal consumer base.

"We're happy that we can continue for at least the next three years, to serve our customers and it's just a happy day for us," she said.

"Negotiations went great," added Stop & Shop employee Derek Correia. "We got a good contract and everybody's happy."

A spokesperson for Stop & Shop sent a statement to NBC 10 via email. The statement said, in part:

"Our goal throughout this process has been to secure fair and reasonable contracts that benefit our associates, their families and our customers....

We are very pleased that these contracts achieve this goal and recognize the outstanding contribution and hard work of our.... store associates."
