NBC 10's I-Team has learned that
the husband of a Rhode Island state representative has been arrested and
charged with credit card fraud.
Henry Fellela, the husband of
state Rep. Deborah Fellela, was arraigned Friday morning on the charges. He
apparently fell ill after the arraignment and is now in the hospital, according
to state police.
State police said Henry Fellela
was caught on surveillance cameras using a stolen Shell credit card at various
gas stations. Police said the stolen card was used 17 times in Rhode
Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey for a total of $720 in fraudulent
purchases.
Police said Fellela, 55, was also
driving a car with expired plates that had been issued to his wife.
The car is a late
model Lexus. Deborah Fellela was not charged because she was not driving the
car, according to state police.
Maj. Michael
Winquist of the Rhode Island State Police said Fellela has a past criminal
history including credit card fraud and forgery. Police also said he's been
arrested in the past for involvement in organized crime gambling.
Fellela is due in court Thursday
for a formal arraignment.
Deborah Fellela is a Democrat who
represents Johnston.
