Health Check: Blood center accepts entries for T-shirt contest

Posted: Updated:

For the past 10 years, the Rhode Island Blood Center has been giving away prints from local artists to those donors who've given the gift of life at least four times a year -- once each season -- as part of its Seasons' Pass program.

Four years ago, it started a T-shirt design contest.

"Where we have a high school student design a T-shirt that we then give to high school donors who donate three times over the course of the year and have to have donated at their high school as well," spokesman Frank Prosnitz said.

Last year's winner was Elizabeth Barstow. She was a senior at the time and a design student at the Warwick Area Career and Technical Center. Her winning entry was a clever one: "Keep the beats going."

"Blood donation is one of those things that comes from the heart, like music. When shared, the world becomes a better place for life," Barstow said in a statement.

The Rhode Island Blood Center is soliciting for this year's artist.

"It will be judged first by a number of people at the blood center and then actually we do voting online," Prosnitz said.

The deadline to submit artwork for consideration is March 15.
