Attleboro police say a 15-year-old boy attacked his neighbor inside her Cumberland Avenue home.A 15-year-old boy is accused of trying to kill his 63-year-old neighbor three different ways, Attleboro police said Thursday.
The boy was charged with attempted murder, home invasion, kidnapping, assault with intent to murder, intimidation of a witness, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and assault and battery on a person over 60 causing injury. His name was not released because of his age.
A police news release did not give a motive for the attack.
Police said the boy broke into Paula McMurrough's Cumberland Avenue home at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Police said the boy lives on the same street and that the two know each other.
Police said the boy attacked McMurrough and stabbed her several times in the neck and the torso.
Police said the boy then drove McMurrough in her car to a pond near the Seekonk border, where he tried to drown her.
Unsuccessful, police said the boy drove McMurrough to another location and tried to asphyxiate her by plugging the car's tailpipe.
The woman managed to get free and drove herself to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. She was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The boy was arrested early Thursday at his home.
Police said they searched for evidence near the Studley and Brennan schools. But they said neither school was connected to the attack and that students were never in danger.
