Police are looking for a man who took a diamond valued at $40,000 from a Westfarms mall jewelry store.
NBC Connecticut, WVIT-TV, reports that Michael's Jewelers notified police just before noon Tuesday that a man posing as a customer had run away with the gemstone.
Police say the man is described as thin, about 6 feet tall and in his late 30s. Store workers said he had a shaved or bald head, wore glasses and large earrings made of square clusters of stones. He was wearing blue jeans, tan work boots and a white cross-striped shirt.
Police say he left the mall in a black, four-door Chevy Cruz driven by an older, heavyset man in a white t-shirt. Police said the car had Florida license plates and was reported stolen in Meriden on Monday.
