WOONSOCKET, R.I. -

Two men were taken to the hospital on Monday night after Woonsocket police said a dog bit a man after his owner and another man were struck in the head with a golf club.

Police in Woonsocket responded to an apartment building on Grove Street at about 7:15 p.m. for a report of an assault.

Police said 38-year-old Matthew Jones, of Boston, got into an argument with two men who attended a party at his girlfriend's apartment.

Police said Jones struck both men with a golf club, but was bitten by a dog belonging to one of the victims.

Jones was arrested and charged with two counts of felony assault and one count of domestic disorderly conduct.

The dog is with the owner, but has been quarantined for 10 days.
