The Dukcevich brothers, Davide and Stefano, have a real passion for food.
"People ask me, 'Don't you get tired of prosciutto?' Never, I could eat it every day!" Davide Dukcevich said.
The brothers are the third generation of family to run Daniele, a gourmet food company in Rhode Island.
Federal Hill has long been crowned the king of Italian food in the state, but it's in Burrillville where Daniele has built an entire kingdom of Italian sausages and cured meats produced and shipped worldwide.
The company's factory will measure a half-mile long once its $60 million expansion is complete next spring.
States like Texas, New York and Virginia heavily recruited the company to relocate, but a love for Rhode Island inspired the family to stay and expand their business here.
"They were all offering a lot of really sweet incentives. We love it here. We love the people here. We love the community. There is such a wonderful zeitgeist here for food," Davide Dukcevich said.
To celebrate the community, Daniele has launched a brand new line with more than two dozen products that are locally made from start to finish.
Students at RISD designed the labels for the line, and only pork raised in New England according to the family's specifications is used.
"I think the outcome speaks for itself, this is the best prosciutto we have ever made," Davide Dukcevich said.
"You have to believe in what you're doing. It's wonderful I see my babies every morning. I come in and check all the rooms, all the dry rooms and I see how the product in there is doing and I see it and I touch it. It's a constant labor of love, but that's what makes it so magnificent," Stefano Dukcevich said.
Davide Dukcevich said he envisions Rhode Island as a Silicon Valley for food, a community where local farmers, chefs and food companies can collaborate and thrive.
It's a concept Daniele can really sink its teeth into.
