Whitehouse addresses activists at 'climate change' rally

WEST WARWICK, R.I. -

Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse spoke at a "climate change" rally in Washington this weekend.

Whitehouse was joined on the National Mall by environmental activists from dozens of states, including more than 200 Rhode Islanders.

Speakers called for more government spending on green energy, and so called 'carbon taxes' on emissions.

"We're seeing changes in our oceans; we're seeing far more vulnerability to big storms along our coast. And the same thing is happening not just in my state but in every state across the country and indeed around the planet. We've got to do something about the carbon pollution that is causing it," said Whitehouse.

Activists also called on President Obama to reject the Keystone XL pipeline project, which would bring Canadian oil to American refineries for processing.
