PAWTUCKET, R.I. -

Tolman High School baseball coach Theo Murray came up with an idea to help the community in Newtown, Conn. heal after the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

"Everybody tries to figure out what's something you can do to help. We know that people from around the world have made donations and come forward to the Newtown community. But from my point of view, I tried to come up with something that would bring joy to the community there," Murray said.

Murray reached out to the Newtown High School baseball coach and invited them to play a charity game at McCoy Stadium. The invitation was warmly accepted by the Newtown coach.

The next step, however, was to secure McCoy Stadium as the venue.

"We just thought if we could help that community dry that eye from that tragic afternoon through our great game of baseball here at McCoy, the Pawsox we're all behind it," said Mike Tamburro, general manager of the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Murray and Tamburro are working on the details, most importantly getting the word out.

"I think for them to come up, and not only have the opportunity to play here at McCoy but hopefully the city of Pawtucket and the state of Rhode Island will come out and show support for what took place in their town," Tamburro said.

All parties agree that the event is more than just a baseball game.

"This is the biggest game we'll ever play in here. Not in the sense that we're playing for a state championship, but to do what we're trying to do, to accomplish what we hope to accomplish. We're definitely praying there's no rain that day," said John Scanlon, Tolman athletic director.

Tolman will play Newtown in an exhibition baseball game at 11:30 a.m. on April 20 at McCoy Stadium.
