According to Nielsen* data, NBC 10 remains the dominant television news source in Southern New England, winning all newscasts in the coveted February 2012 ratings period.
NBC 10 News beat the competition combined at 5 a.m., 5:30 a.m., 6 a.m., 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The new 4:30 a.m. edition of NBC 10 News Sunrise received a 2 rating, doubling the competition's 1 rating.
In the highly competitive 11 p.m. time period, NBC 10 News at 11:00 retains its dominance with a 6 rating, compared to WPRI's 5 rating.
While WPRI/WNAC continue to promote victory in the late evening ratings war, they need to combine the ratings of their 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts in order to make this claim. When WJAR combines the ratings from its two late evening broadcasts – its 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts – WJAR's ratings victory is substantial with a 12 rating versus a WPRI/WNAC's combined 9 rating. NBC 10 was also the clear winner in all weekend newscasts.

During the month of February, NBC 10 News coverage made a huge impact on the community.
NBC 10 I-Team's Jim Taricani exposed questionable healthcare at an area nursing home. A story so alarming, the Rhode Island Department of Health immediately stepped in following our reports and is now doing surprise inspections of the nursing home and evaluating its future.
NBC 10's Parker Gavigan uncovered the seemingly-excessive salaries and tainted work histories of some overseeing the Central Falls receivership. City leaders found Parker's findings so outrageous that they are now holding special meetings to investigate and are calling on the governor to step in.
"NBC 10 Sunrise at 4:30 a.m. and NBC 10 News at 7 p.m. continue to show strength and clearly shows that viewers needed access to local news at those time periods," said Vic Vetters, NBC 10 general manager. "It's all about the viewer and, if they need news at other times, we'll be sure to be there for them."
Turnto10.com (both web and mobile) and the NBC 10 free news app saw an increase of 46 percent more unique users in the month of February when compared last February**. NBC 10 is committed to providing users access to news, weather and information 24/7 on all devices.
NBC 10's Facebook page surpassed 50,000 friends this month thanks to a highly successful community service campaign aimed at saving rescue pets.
"The campaign was called "Help These Faces" and the station donated $5,000 to the Ocean State Animal Coalition on Feb. 29," said Kim Reis, NBC 10 Digital Media and Marketing Director. "The Rhode Island Community Spay Neuter Clinic was so appreciative at the check presentation and couldn't believe how the power of ten was able to bring such awareness to their spaying and neutering campaign to reduce the number of unwanted pets in the area."
Of all local television stations, NBC 10 has the largest Facebook community in the Southern New England media market.
