Julie Tremmel joined the WJAR NBC10 News team in October of 2012 as a General Assignment Reporter after spending the last two years as an Evening Reporter/Fill-in Anchor FOX23 News in Albany, N.Y.
Born and raised in Marlboro, Mass., Julie is ecstatic to be 'so much closer to home.'
However, Julie had little time to 'settle in' to her new on air position here in Providence.
Within weeks of her arrival, she found herself front and center covering the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, the 2012 Presidential Election, and a major Nor'easter that tore up the eastern seaboard.
Luckily, Julie is used to adapting to ever-changing situations and locations.
Her TV News career has taken her all over the country, and afforded her the privilege of covering a wide variety of stories including 9-11, the election debacle of 2000, the deadly Springfield, Mass. Tornado, and Hurricane Irene, which wiped out entire communities in upstate New York.
But Julie's career did not begin 'on air.'
Her first job in news was as a print reporter for the St. Petersburg Times while she studying print journalism and communications as an undergrad at the University of Tampa.
Julie first realized she wanted to move away from print work, and try her hand at TV News after interning at FOX13 Tampa bay for two semesters during her senior year of college.
On the advice of the FOX13 News Director, Julie decided to go to graduate school as a way to learn the 'broadcast side' of the news business.
After receiving a full scholarship to graduate school, Julie found herself in the Midwest at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
In 2001, Julie earned a Master's Degree in Broadcast Journalism and Communications from SIU, made the switch to television by landing her first paid on-air job at ABC3 WSIL News in Carterville, Ill., and has never looked back.
Over the past decade, Julie has also worked as an Evening Reporter/Fill-in Anchor at WWLP 22News in Springfield, Mass., reported for NECN Boston, headlined and helped to create the "The Worcester News Tonight 10 O'Clock Update" for NECN in Worcester, Mass., and worked as an Anchor/Reporter for SNN Channel 6 in Sarasota, Fla.
While studying as a grad student at SIU, Julie also interned for several months at the national television news magazine show 'EXTRA' in Los Angeles, Calif.
Julie has been recognized for her coverage of numerous news events, and recently earned a "Best Newscast" award as part of the FOX23 News team for the station's coverage of the "Occupy Albany Riots of 2011."
Julie was a member of the University of Tampa's rowing team for four years, and during her senior year, her Women's Lightweight Four finished fourth in the country in prestigious Dad Vail National Championship Regatta in Philadelphia.
After having emergency surgery earlier this year, Julie now lives without an appendix.
Julie LOVES breaking news, and enjoys covering situations that evolve and develop while the newscasts are live, and the cameras are rolling.
In her spare time Julie enjoys rowing, SCUBA Diving, jogging, skiing, shopping with friends, making beaded jewelry, and trips to Cape Cod, Tampa & Sarasota.
