BERKLEY, Mass. -- Police said Thursday that a shooting in Berkley was an accident.

Three friends of the victim face charges.

Carmelo Cacciatore, 20, of Middleborough, was shot in the stomach Tuesday on Plain Street.  His injuries were not life-threatening.

Police said 17-year-old Angel Reed was showing off a gun to some friends when he accidentally shot Cacciatore. Reed was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police also arrested 18-year-old Glen Rogers and 20-year-old Celina Rogers and charged them with obstructing justice.  Police said the brother and sister lied about what happened.

Investigators said an initial story that the shooting was the result of a drive-by was made up.

Police seized several guns, cash, marijuana and cocaine as part of the investigation.

Reed has a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Monday, and Sutter said he plans to ask that the teen be held without bail.

Sutter also said he wants jail time for the Rogers siblings.
