E-Z Pass is coming to Rhode Island.

The state announced Thursday it has accepted a bid from Castea Tecnhologies to install the electronic toll collection system on the Newport Bridge.

E-Z Pass is used on bridges and toll roads from Virginia to Maine.

The pass sends a signal from a battery-powered device in your car to the toll booth to indicate you've passed through. It automatically withdraws money from a pre-paid account.

E-Z Pass has been credited with easing traffic congestion on toll roads.

The installation is expected to be complete by 2009.
