Steve Handelsman
National and International Correspondent
NBC 10 News

Most days he's reporting live from the White House or from Capitol Hill, but when the big story moves away from Washington, Steve Handelsman often follows.

In the dozen years Steve has been national correspondent for the NBC television stations, he's reported live from hurricanes, earthquakes, riots, wars, and crises in Kuwait, Panama, Mexico, Brazil, Honduras, Turkey, the Philippines, Africa and Europe.

Back home, Steve's series, "Kids on Steroids," won a Washington Emmy, one of four he's been awarded. His series on the Suzuki Samurai was the first report in the nation to expose the dangers of that light utility vehicle. His series on Nazi skinheads won special recognition by the Anti Defamation League of B'nai B'rith.

Before coming to NBC in 1984, Steve reported for six years at WXYZ-TV in Detroit, where for two years he headed the investigative unit. Prior to that, Steve reported for WLWT-TV in Cincinnati. He began his career at WTTG-TV after teaching at Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C., for three years.

Steve is an avid bicyclist, skier and scuba diver. He grew up in Baltimore and is a graduate of Duke University in Durham, N.C. He has been married to Ruth Handelsman for more than 25 years. They have two daughters.
