R.I. Bishop: Immigration legislation a good idea

PROVIDENCE—Rhode Island’s Roman Catholic bishop says federal lawmakers are taking a step in the right direction by proposing legislation that protects the rights of U.S. citizens and legal residents who get caught up in immigration enforcement raids.
The bill was proposed by Sens. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts and Robert Menendez of New Jersey.
Providence Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Tobin said Friday that while he has not read the full text of the bill, he supports efforts to address problems during raids, including American citizens and legal residents who get swept up alongside illegal immigrants.
The legislation would require immigration agents to advise people being detained of their rights, including the option of remaining silent or seeking legal counsel.

Why is it that we (as a society) insist on making the Police’s job more difficult thru the introdution of these
redundant laws?
There are, and have been for quite some time, sufficient protections as afforded by the Constitution and the bill of rights.
The problem arises when the radical left (also known as busybodies, anarchists, (and my all time favorite) Social Engineers) insist on applying these values to citizens of other sovern nations (read that as non-citizens)
Just another insication that Bishop Tobin is NOT an expert on the Constitution.
