A former finance director in the Narragansett school system has been formally charged with embezzling thousands of dollars.
Christopher Mallett faces five charges.
Police arrested Mallet last month. He is accused of depositing checks worth more than $50,000 into his personal account.
An employee at the school department reportedly discovered the checks.
Superintendent Katherine Sipala said Mallett returned the money.
