CUMBERLAND, R.I.—Workers who lost their jobs when a Cumberland manufacturer closed are now eligible for additional federal assistance including job retraining and relocation help.
About 400 full-time employees lost their positions when KIK Custom Products Inc. closed its manufacturing plant in Rhode Island.
The Canadian consumer products manufacturer attributed the closure to increased foreign competition and a decrease in orders.
Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed said the firm’s employees will receive special assistance under a program for workers who lose their jobs to international trade. They will be eligible for job training, funding for job searches and relocation and a tax credit for health insurance.
