SCITUATE, R.I.—A man is accused of holding up an Xtra Mart in Foster and leading state police on a car chase that ended in Providence.

Gregory Coffey, of Providence, was charged Friday with robbery, resisting arrest and other offenses.

State troopers tried to pull Coffey over early Friday in Johnston because his car allegedly matched the description of a vehicle that was involved in earlier armed robberies in the area.

Police said Coffey sped away, leading the troopers on a chase into Providence, before his car struck shrubbery and then the side of a Burger King restaurant in Olneyville. He was arrested after allegedly trying to run away.

It could not be immediately determined if he has a lawyer.
