PROVIDENCE —Rhode Island made more than $374,000 at an unclaimed property auction held last weekend.

Treasurer Frank Caprio said on Tuesday that $50,000 of that total came from the sale of an 1898 Tiffany cup bought by an unnamed bidder from New Jersey.
The state keeps the money. Caprio says the auction’s proceeds exceeded expectations.

Saturday’s auction in Providence drew interest from bidders around the country. Most of the items came from abandoned safety deposit boxes reported to the treasurer’s office after their rents went unpaid for three years.
