NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.—An Air National Guard unit returned to Rhode Island on Tuesday after spending six months in Iraq.

Members of the 143rd Civil Engineering Squadron touched down at Quonset Air National Guard Base.

Lt. Col. Denis Riel, spokesman for the Rhode Island National Guard, said the unit had been at Tallil Air Base, about 180 miles south of Baghdad, to maintain infrastructure and power and work on construction projects at the American installation.

All but one of the 27 members in the deployed unit returned. The remaining member stayed behind for medical reasons.
