Rescued deer later euthanized

WALTHAM, Mass.—Crews spent several hours on the ice of the Cambridge Reservoir in Waltham on Monday rescuing an injured deer.
Environmental police, Waltham animal control and Waltham police and fire crews all assisted with the rescue.
Police said the deer was later euthanized because it had a broken leg.

I agree there was no reason after all the effort to save the deer to later kill the animal. Also why bother to post comments when no one will ever get back to us with an answer to why the animal was killed.

I doubt they would have done that if it could be avoided….at least because of the efforts to save it. I wonder if it is for the same reasons that horses need to be put down when they have broken legs??

Why was I necessary to kill the deer?
Aren’t there any vets that whould take care of it?

I agree… why would a broken leg constitute killing this deer?

I dont understand the reasoning for euthanizing this deer. A broken leg isnt a big deal, they could fix it put it in a cast and transport it to southwicks zoo in Mendon, MA or something. How is a broken leg lethal?
