A New Bedford man is accused of intentionally driving head-on into a telephone pole Monday in an attempt to hurt his girlfriend’s children.
Norberto Fraticelli, 43, was arraigned Monday on a number of charges, including assault. He was ordered held without bail and to have no contact with the children.
Prosecutors said Fraticelli was upset with his girlfriend and that as a way to get back at her, he offered to drive her 15-year-old daughter, 12-year-old son and a 14-year-old friend to school. Police said the children were treated at a hospital for non-lifethreatening injuries after the crash.
Investigators said Fraticelli never wears a seat-belt and doesn’t make the children wear theirs either.
But they said Fraticelli put on his seat belt just before hitting the gas, driving across a lane of oncoming traffic, and slamming into a telephone pole. The car caught fire.
It was not immediately known why Fraticelli was upset.

Who cares why he was upset? It doesn’t matter what he was upset about, there isn’t any reason that would justify what he did.
